Can my GP ask the hospital to see me quicker?

GPs do not have control over where you are on the waiting list

Expedite letters do not have any influence over the waiting list. Your GP practice receives multiple requests for expedite letters everyday
which reduces the number of appointments available.

What should I do?

If you have been referred to the hospital for further investigations, visit the following website to see what the current waiting times are: www.myplannedcare.nhs.uk

The hospital will contact you every 12 weeks that you are on the waiting list to see whether you still require an appointment.

If your symptoms become more severe, please contact the specialist’s secretary. Contact details will be on any correspondence from the hospital.

Tests ordered by the hospital will be followed up by the hospital.

For new symptoms which may not be related to your original condition, please let your GP practice know.
