Dementia Friendly Practice – Helping families with dementia

In 2018 Parkside Medical Practice began working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Practice.

As part of this process, all clinical and non clinical staff received training from the Alzheimer’s Society, and a “walk through” was performed by one of our patients who suffers with dementia to see how easily he could navigate the practice and our services.

Cheryl, one of our reception team, is our Practice Dementia Lead and has personal experience of dementia. She spearheaded our efforts to achieve the Dementia Friendly award.

Recently, two of our patients who are living with dementia, asked specifically to speak directly to Cheryl for advice about coping with dementia.

Cheryl was able to arrange follow up with one of our clinicians and connect them with appropriate services.

If you need help with dementia, or want to know more then see one of our clinicians, or ask to speak to Cheryl, the Dementia Lead.
